UPCOMING RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION
ALEXIS AKRITHAKIS. A LINE LIKE A WAVE
BENAKI MUSEUM, PIREOS 138, ATHENS, GREECE
12 February — 24 May 2026
From Alexis Akrithakis’s early psychedelic images that capture the spirit of the 1960s, the iconic 'suitcase' of the 1970s, the electric-lights constructions that deconstruct painting into materials, atmospheres, and intentions, the expressionistic landscapes and the penetrating portraits, all the way to the heart-rending late works featuring the 'madmen' and inmates of the Dromokaiteio Psychiatric Hospital, the 'Alexis Akrithakis, A Line Like a Wave' exhibition highlights the sensitivity of a multifaceted artist and a previously unknown facet of his creativity.
The 'Alexis Akrithakis, A Line Like a Wave' exhibition, curated by Chloé Akrithaki and Alexios Papazacharias, is the first major retrospective of this important Greek artist to take place in Greece in 30 years. Among other things, it presents to the public for the first time important works from public and private collections, shedding light on the creative diversity of one of the most distinctive and idiosyncratic figures of modern Greek art.
